Senator Vicki MacDonald
Senator Vicki MacDonald came and visited us the other day. She represents the 41st district of Nebraska. She was very close to the audience, only about 5 feet away. She was very animated and sociable and even had a question and answer session after her speech.
One of the issues brought up in the question and answer session was the shift of rural senators to urban. Each term the rural community loses one of their senators to the growing urban population.
Another issue we discussed was minimum wage. She thinks that families can’t survive on 5.15 an hour anymore, but that some of the big businesses would fight it. And I feel that she is right that people can’t live on 5.15 anymore.
One of the biggest things she brought up was educating illegal immigrants’ children. As long as they were born in the U.S. they have the right of a U.S. citizen to get an education as part of The No Child Left Behind Act. I agree with her because its not the children’s fault that their parents crossed the border in search of a better life.
