Senator Vicki MacDonald

Senator Vicki MacDonald came and visited us the other day. She represents the 41st district of Nebraska. She was very close to the audience, only about 5 feet away. She was very animated and sociable and even had a question and answer session after her speech.

One of the issues brought up in the question and answer session was the shift of rural senators to urban. Each term the rural community loses one of their senators to the growing urban population.

Another issue we discussed was minimum wage. She thinks that families can’t survive on 5.15 an hour anymore, but that some of the big businesses would fight it. And I feel that she is right that people can’t live on 5.15 anymore.

One of the biggest things she brought up was educating illegal immigrants’ children. As long as they were born in the U.S. they have the right of a U.S. citizen to get an education as part of The No Child Left Behind Act. I agree with her because its not the children’s fault that their parents crossed the border in search of a better life.

Nebraska Access and Google Review

Nebraska Access provided me with some useful information. I typed in compulsive gambling and came up with some great abstracts from different articles. I clicked on a random article and came up with this one.
Kluger'>http://vnweb.hwwilsonweb.com/hww/jumpstart.jhtml?recid=0bc05f7a67b1790e903ec8571a4a2e64459d9ad442cbff03883ed04448676e7937ef65637c9be321&fmt=H">Kluger, J. When Gambling Becomes Obsessive. Time v. 166 no. 5 (August 1 2005) p. 52-4

I did a term paper on compulsive gambling last year and this would have been very useful to me. Unfortunately I got stuck using magazines and encylopedias.

Google gave me alot more options on where to get my information. The only problem with this is I'm not 100% sure this is correct. With Nebraska Access I can be sure of it. On the whole, I found both search engines to be highly useful.

Self Inventory Review

This helped me figure out I was dissatisfied with our government and President Bush in particular. I support the troops but we are going to look back on this and it is going to be the same as Vietnam. Waste of lives and money.

2nd I figured out that we need to put Papa Bill Clinton back into the government. Let him run the government while Cheney tells Bush what to do.

3rd I have no real plan for the future except going to college and getting my gen eds done. I have no idea what I want to go into.

I plan on attending a school board meeting for Spalding Public School, listen to a sermon by our parish priest, and attend a Tom Osborne presentation for the Public Speaking events requirements for this class.

My self introduction speech was a pain. First off, I couldnt figure out what my speech was going to be about. I never had time to just sit down and finish it. Consequently it took me about a week. Once I did figure it out, the process of making a powerpoint presentation was relatively easy. The making of my powerpoint presentation only took a couple hours. The part I hated about this project was the actual speaking in front of the camera. My fellow students decided it would be funny to make faces and throw thing at me while I was speaking. I was happy to be done with it.

It must be my lucky week or something. Spalding Public just cancelled school tomorrow. That'll make it three days in a row. Good thing it snowed close to thirty inches The bad thing is I have to go to work bright and early. Well I'm missing out on a good show to write this. Ray is on starring Jamie Foxx. Looked pretty exciting. It is getting past my bedtime so I better get going. Later.

It's been a very long time since I've last posted something. I have been really busy getting ready for prom and all that. School has been going really good. Our shop class is getting ready to put in a suspended ceiling. We went to Conference Quiz Bowl yester day and finished 4th out of 9 teams. Finished with 3 wins and 2 losses. But hopefully I'll be posting some more news about me soon. Later.
